Each level uses a different filter media, which is understandable because no single filter media can effectively treat all types of contaminants on its own. Multi-stage water filters commonly come in the form of reverse osmosis filters.

Most water purification experts agree that reverse osmosis filters require at least several stages of filtration to be effective. They can be divided into pre-filtration and post-filtration. The pre-filter consists of a sediment filter, an activated carbon filter, and a reverse osmosis membrane. The post-filtration consists of a carbon block post-filter.

Sediment filter. Effective in removing large contaminants visible to the naked eye, such as sediment, rust, etc. These contaminants not only cause damage to the human body but also may clog the reverse osmosis membrane.

Activated carbon filter. In order to better enhance the effectiveness of treated water, YUNDA uses activated carbon granules and carbon blocks as the second and third stages of filtration, respectively. Chlorine, residual pesticides, herbicides, and other chemical contaminants are treated in this step.

The RO membrane, the heart of the RO system, is expensive and easily damaged, so an activated carbon pre-filter is necessary to maintain the integrity of the RO membrane.

The fifth stage is the post-carbon block filter, which gets rid of the odors and smells that still remain in the water after filtration.

The first stage of the five-micron sediment filter. Can initially eliminate large particles of pollutants.

The second level is a natural coconut shell granular activated carbon filter. Removes residual chlorine, unpleasant odors, organic contaminants, pesticides, and other chemicals from the water.

The third level, the carbon block filter, eliminates pesticides, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), and trihalomethanes. 

The fourth level is the composite reverse osmosis membrane. Like lead, cadmium, organic matter, harmful substances, and other impurities, with a precision of 0.0001 microns.

The fifth level, post carbon filter, can greatly improve the taste, remove the remaining impurities and odor after filtration, and improve the quality of water.

The sixth level is the remineralization filter. This puts beneficial minerals such as calcium and magnesium into the clean water that has been filtered. 

As I'm sure you can already tell the difference, the optional stage available for reverse osmosis systems is remineralization filters, which additionally put lost healthy minerals into the water. Although this stage is not mandatory, many manufacturers still recommend them as being more healthful and helpful.
